EXPECTANT PARENTS

Congratulations on expecting a baby!
We encourage you to schedule a prenatal visit at our office to meet us and see our office. You can call our office at (201)444-8389 to do so.
Until then here is some information that will be helpful to you before the birth and after.
If you are delivering at The Valley Hospital, Dr. Yankus or Dr. Ungerleider will see you and your baby within 24 hours of the birth. We will examine your baby in the nursery and then speak to you and answer your questions. We do this once daily while you are there. If any problems arise with the baby while you are there, the nurses will inform us and we will take the appropriate action. Most women stay in the hospital for 48 hours after an normal vaginal delivery and 72 hours after a Caesarean section. This will be determined by your obstetrician and your insurance company. Your baby will be discharged on the same day as you, unless one of you has complications, necessitating a longer stay.
After you are discharged home, we generally see your baby in our office within the week. This is primarily to ensure good feedings and weight gain. We also find that parents have questions at that time, which we spend time answering. One of the nurses in our office will also call you in the first day or two to review the newborn care and answer questions. The regularly scheduled visits after that are at 2 weeks, 1 month, then monthly for the first 6 months, every 2 months for the next 6 and every 3 months for the next year.
